Retired Non-Citizen Programme
Upon successful acceptance and registration, a Retired Person's Residence Permit, that allows an eligible non-citizen to live in Mauritius for up to three years will be issued.
Criteria to Qualify as a Retired Non-Citizen:
It is an integral requirement in this category that the applicant demonstrate financial means to sustain themselves in Mauritius.
- The applicant must provide details about his/her financial standing, amount of foreign currency to be transferred to Mauritius.
- The applicant will become eligible if he/she undertakes to transfer at least US$ 40,000 or equivalent in convertible currency annually to Mauritius.
- Permanent Residency After 3 Years and the Right to purchase land.
- Non-citizens holding a Retired Person's Residence Permit and may apply for permanent residence status after 3 years provided the following conditions are satisfied. In addition, the permanent resident can then purchase property on the island.
- Retired Person: After three years, the retired non-citizen will become eligible for a Permanent Residence Permit if he/she has in effect transferred a sum of USD 40,000 each year to his/her local bank account.
Residence Permit for Dependents
Dependents include spouse and children less than 18 years. Spouse includes both married and common law partners. Children include legally adopted children and children from a previous marriage.
An application for residence permit should be made on the Application to enter Mauritius form to the occupation permit unit. The processing time for this category varies between 3 and 5 working days.
The spouse for the holder of an occupation permit is eligible to work in Mauritius. In case, a separate application for an occupation permit or a work permit, whichever is applicable, should be submitted.
